A carnivorous dinosaur tooth fossil was discovered in Ohyama-machi Town. First case in Toyama Prefecture [25-year ago today]
Dr. Yo’ichi Azuma of the Fukui Prefecture Cultural Affairs Division confirmed the fossil discovered on June 16 in Ohyama-machi Town, Toyama Prefecture, as a tooth fossil of a bipedal carnivorous dinosaur by the 23rd.
When the Ohyama-machi Town Education Board staff were investigating the groundwater treatment of a giant footprint fossil discovered in 1995, they found the exposed tooth fossil.
As a result of the examination, the fossil was evaluated as a body fossil.
It is the fourth case in Japan following Ishikawa, Fukui, and Mie, in which a body fossil was found on the same site as a footprint fossil.
Q. What kind of fossil was found?
The fossil was a 23 mm long and 13 mm broad jagged sawtooth in good condition. Based on the width of the tooth, it is estimated to be the tooth of a medium-sized theropod that lived in the Early Cretaceous period.
