North Korean Corpses and Wooden Boats Wash Ashore on Ishikawa Coast [25-year ago today]
On the 22nd, locals discovered Japanese-style wooden boats displaying Hangul plates and dead bodies on the coast of Ishikawa Prefecture.
At Otongari Beach in Wajima City, a skeletal female body without arms washed up. In contrast, in Kaga City Katano Beach, the almost entirely decomposed lower half of a body with Korean Won bills in the pocket was also discovered.
On the previous day, a body, believed to be a North Korean female soldier, was found in Nanatsuka-machi Town. A forensic examination revealed the female body in her twenties, around 155–160 cm tall, who had died approximately four months earlier.
A Party ID Card with the body inscribed “Candidate Party Member of the North Korean Workers’ Party.” An expert suggested the dead could be either a defector who encountered trouble while attempting to flee or a Candidate Party Member who faced trouble during landing training.
Q: What is a Candidate Party Member of the North Korean Workers’ Party?
A Candidate Party Member is a preparatory member of the North Korean Workers’ Party, under an educational and training phase before becoming an official member.
Candidates must meet criteria, such as loyalty, to achieve full membership. Since the Workers’ Party is the only legal political party in North Korea, becoming an official member holds significant political and social value, opening doors to high-ranking positions.
