The name of the multi-purpose pedestrian road planned near the north exit of Toyama Station has become Boulevard [25-year ago today]

The committee for selecting nicknames for the multi-purpose plaza and Boulevard has decided that the name of the multi-purpose pedestrian road planned in the section from the north exit of JR Toyama Station to Toyama Jiyukan will be Boulevard, keeping its tentative name.

Boulevard means tree-lined streets in French.

Q. How did the committee decide the name?

Since the tentative name Boulevard was decided in 1986 as a subsidized project by the Ministry of Construction (now the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism), the people concerned tried to give a new name that locals can be familiar with.

In response to requests from the city council and others, a nickname contest ran, and 1,179 application postcards were received, mainly from outside the Toyama prefecture.

Ultimately, the committee decided to select a nickname as the official name for the multi-purpose plaza, which keep the tentative name.
