The first quality inspection of beer barley used as a raw material for local beer in Kawakita-machi Town, Ishikawa Prefecture, highly evaluated it with a 2nd class grade [25-year ago today]

At the JA Nomi Nadeshiko branch, the barley for the local beer that Wakuwaku Tezukuri Farm Kawakita planned to start producing at the end of the year was inspected and acquired certification saying that it was sufficient for use as a raw material for beer.

The inspectors from the Komatsu branch of the Kanazawa Food Office used measuring equipment to inspect the grain size, color, luster, and moisture content of the barley, and they provided a 2nd class grade with almost all of the 26 bags weighing 1,300 kg. It was the first case that barley had been inspected in the prefecture.

Q. Is it difficult to grow barley?

The quality of barley is highly dependent on the weather, and it isn’t easy to grow in the Hokuriku region, where there is a lot of rain and snow.

Before this news, several areas in the prefecture had attempted to grow it, but their berley did not reach the level required for inspection.

Wakuwaku Tezukuri Farm Kawakita, which would later sell Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Beer and others, completed the construction of a brewery, restaurant, and store selling products directly delivered from the farm in December of the same year.
